[CLOSED]
who: Maka Albarn, Rin Okumura, Death the Kid.
when: evening of IDC?!
where: Villa and then who knows.
style: action
status: closed
[The problem with trying to check the villa library for any waterlogged books is that Kid has a tendency to find one eventually that he can't resist cracking open for a peek at its literary contents.
This eventually led to Kid spending all night poring in stoic fascination through a book that would have been more Karkat's bag than his.
Still, the parts that weren't just plain uncomfortable to read were rather... educational.
He hadn't known that flowers and candlelight were extremely effective means of conveying one's admiration, particularly in combination with a fine meal. It begged to be tested. The problem was... Kid wasn't all that good at cooking, not like Rin.
No that's perfect.
The moment Rin arrived to the kitchen that morning was the very moment he was accosted. He had an idea. Something they could do for Maka that she was sure to like, but he needed Rin's help.]

No that's perfect.
The moment Rin arrived to the kitchen that morning was the very moment he was accosted. He had an idea. Something they could do for Maka that she was sure to like, but he needed Rin's help.]

[Were the first (well second after a half intelligible "mornin'..." that was mumbled in to dark hair with the first embrace of the morning) words out of one Rin Okumura's mouth, with an expression that clearly said 'Kid. Please. It's too early for your rambling.'
The words were trailed by a hefty yawn, the half-demon scratching at his belly under his cotton tee-shirt as his tail lazily swayed about low to the floor.]
C'mon. Small words, I ain't awake enough for this yet.
no subject
You. [Clunk.] And I. [He takes up the teapot and begins filling each with strong, fragrant black tea.]
Should treat Maka to dinner. I'm going to select some candles and flowers for the occasion. If I could have your help in preparing her a meal...
[Kid slides one of the cups over to him.] ...are you following? Or shall I wait until you've had some tea.
no subject
[Another yawn left him before he went for the tea, hand wrapping around the mug where he simply enjoyed the warmth for a moment.]
No, I get it. Sorry...
[No matter how hard he tried, even a year of working and sometimes early shifts did not make Rin Okumura any more of a morning person than he had been at the start of his academy schooling. But he did wake up quickly, which certainly helped in this situation.]
I can do that. Just gotta tell me what you wanna make and I'll do it.
no subject
[Kid settles into a chair with a soft creak of wood, cradling the bottom of his mug in one palm, letting its heat chase away the cool in his own hands.]
Maka's tastes are rather varied compared with my own. But if it's possible, there's a certain theme I'd like this meal to follow, which I will summarize in a single word.
"Angel" -- do you think it's possible?
no subject
[Rin's question came with a light smile as he joined Kid at the table, remembering just how Maka's soul looked when he had chances to look at it. It was appropriate, and possibly something he could, if he had enough time to pour over some various recipes.]
I think so, yeah.
no subject
[Oops, he was probably just caught sitting there admiring his boyfriend groggily dragging his mind out of the night's dreaming, even if his fingers itched to attempt to tame his bedraggled hair into something tidier.
Can't be helped, that smile makes him experience something delightfully warm and pleasant at the very core of him. Kid turns his head to sip his tea, but the tips of his ears are already betraying his embarrassment.]
There's a certain poetry to it, isn't there? I think she'll be delighted.
no subject
He wasn't sure what he could say about it being "poetry", but his tired mind was already working over the details.]
Well there's angel food cake - that's kinda given. Oh, and angel hair pasta. Gonna have to go over some other stuff when I'm more awake--... ... what's with the red ears?
[It only took him two minutes to realize it.]
no subject
Nothing of importance. I should see to getting the flowers. With most of Vatheon still in the middle of repairs, materials may be a challenge to come by and I'll need all day to make certain I'm able to acquire any of sufficient quality.
[And a whole mess of perfectly identical candles.]
One more thing.
no subject
Yeah?
no subject
That hand then lifts to touch his fingers to the underside of his chin.]
Thank you for this.
[And then he steps away.]
no subject
I think it's a good idea. Should be fun.
HOURS LATER...
Ultimately, they ended up ushering everyone as far away from the library, which wasn't hard.
All they had to do was have Kid show up with a bucket of sudsy water, rubber gloves, a mop and a sponge and people cleared out of his way. Sometimes, being the resident neat freak had its unexpected perks.
Kid promised to find flowers and candles and he delivered: the bookshelves are untouched, but he moved the finest, most intact chairs and small table into the library, put out the best place settings and silverware they were able to scrounge up, and set in the center a candelabra.
He had to go through hours of effort to find a trio of candles of precisely the same cream color and size, to locate bouquets of fragrant white lilies of as near-identical an appearance as possible.
Getting vases that were perfectly similar was impossible, and although Kid had fussed, the problem was solved by wrapping each vase in cloth and tying it with a ribbon.
What remained was to get Rin away from the kitchen long enough to get him into the suit he's set out for him, plating the meal before it got cold--and retrieving Maka, of course.]
no subject
He knew he had to clean up, that much was obvious, but he made the terrible miscalculation of coming to Kid first.]
Hey, it's all ready.
no subject
[Admittedly, that last part is sort of a horrified whimper leaking out past the hands that clasp over his mouth to try to stifle the sound, but moments later he is advancing on Rin, intending on getting the apron off.
And the shirt.
No instead he needs to just shove Rin towards the bathroom.]
You'll need to shower immediately. Since we're short on time, I'll help you wash.
[Oh god no you won't Kid remember what happened last time you tried to help someone bathe?!]
no subject
Okay okay! Calm down, I can shower myself!
no subject
Splendid.
[He leans forward. The concession he makes against his personal bias against public displays of affection is when he presses his lips briefly against his forehead.]
I'll bring along your suit.
no subject
Alright. I'll be out in ten, okay?
no subject
[Waiting on a hanger in the room Rin shares with Maka is a dark suit -- though it's really anyone's guess how Kid managed to acquire Rin's measurements, with a pressed shirt and tie. Like many wares of Vatheon, the tie's pattern suggests an aquatic theme, like fish scales, shimmery and a deep sapphire blue.
The shoes that go with them have been polished to gleaming.
As for Kid? He's waiting, looking over his SFC while seated in a chair.]
no subject
Y'know, no matter how much I get dressed up for the club I still never feel like I got the hang of this...
[Never mind that he looked... surprisingly dashing, for some one who preferred torn up jeans to nice slacks normally.]
no subject
He scoops it up, clearing his throat as he stands.
Naturally, this leads to some last touches, but Rin is likely used to Kid's tendency to preen the people he likes. He adjusts the knot of his tie, gives a tug on his lapels, tends to his cuffs with fingers deft, familiar with the cut of his suit.]
I thought it might suit you, but I hadn't expected quite this well.
[He clarifies.] You look amazing--just give me a few minutes to try to do something about your hair.
[Because that mop does what it likes.
oh my gosh how does he look that great in a suit he should just wear them all the time]no subject
Well. Hello little ego boost. Rin smiled as Kid touched up the few things he wanted to, and had he actually left his tail out it would have been swaying happily.]
'kay. Good luck gettin' it to behave though.
no subject
In the end, it's an improvement, but an effort that threatens to come apart at a mere breath of stiff wind, or any exertion on the part of the half-demon. As if recognizing that Rin's hair will, indeed, be a Herculean challenge to get to behave, Kid relents with a low note in this throat.]
Marvelous. ...Now to find Maka and get her ready. Do you think she's returned yet?
[Kid don't just accost your girlfriend and preen her too give her a little fore-warning for crying out loud]
no subject
Probably. I can go find her.
[Because he more or less expects that Kid will do just that if given the chance.]
