Missing One Derp||Closed
Who: Roxas, Rin, Riku, and Ranitas
When: Afternoon
Where: Ice Cream Shop at the Plaza
Style: Whatever you want
Status: Closed
It would be funny later on when Vanitas learns the significance of the date, but at the moment he could care less. The one thing keeping the skirt and helmet clad boy in check had just vanished before morning rolled around.
Vanitas had searched high and low for Ventus. After confirming the lack of his other half from both Contact’s List he had appeared outside the last place he saw his sleeping Light. He wasn’t even. Even if he had a small list of possible back-ups, the real thing was gone. Rejoice, Mouse, once again Ventus had to vanish from existence to keep Vanitas from getting him.
A little blood and destruction would make a wonderful Friday the Thirteenth gift, right?
The Ice Cream shop was his destination. He was erasing anything that could be linked to Ventus from the Bubble. He did like Ice Cream, right? And it’ll give the good guys something to be busy with while he eliminated the living links.
He opened a portal and arrived just on the outside of the shop. Summoning a few Unversed to remove any local issue that could be loitering on the inside. If he took out the “prisoners” then all of Vatheon would be on him, but if one were to wander inside, then that was just asking to be snuffed out.
After giving a glance around, he entered the Ice Cream shop, ready to destroy it. Little did he know he’s going to be given an extra treat.
((OoC: Any watchers are free to react to the ice cream shop needing repairs. With the locals being fast little buggers, they will probably have it fixed up in a couple days. )).

He sensed the portal opening outside before he stepped up to the counter. Normally it wasn't really an alarming sensation for him--it could mean the approach of a friend--but this time... He'd never been sensitive to the Light and Darkness in others, at least not consciously, but even so something seemed off.
He turned to look as the door to the shop opened and the boy walked in. That outfit-- He'd seen something very much like it before, but this wasn't Riku or Caden. That helmet, was that what you'd call a mask?
His blue eyes widened. "You're..."
lemme know if this is okay?
It wasn’t until that voice did his head jerk in his direction. “Ventus…” A pause as the outfit and the feeling clicked in place. It really did sink in that he was gone. Sure the searching thing and not seeing him on the list should have nailed that in to place, but it really hadn’t until he saw Roxas. “Whoops. It’s just the fake here.” Vanitas summoned his keyblade as he crossed over. Locals were already trying to flee through the door. “Perfect timing. I was looking for something to break.”
The skirt-clad kid arranged himself to his battle stance. Hopefully Roxas doesn’t mind skipping the small chat in favor of getting on with the main event.
Vanitas created a ball of dark fire to throw at the blond before vanishing through a dark portal. The other end will open up close to behind Roxas. Him being able to sense them will definitely be able to come in handy for getting away if he reacts in time because Vanitas was definitely aiming to strike him from behind.
perfectly <3
"It's Roxas," he said, summoning Oblivion as the helmeted boy approached. "I'm no fake."
But Vanitas certainly didn't seem interested in conversation, and almost immediately he was dodging out of the way of that fire. He sensed the portal opening behind him and whirled to meet the incoming attack with his own keyblade. But he was still just a little unprepared for the fight, and the move was wholly defensive.
<3 <3 <3
He swung down and met keyblade against keyblade. Don’t you just love that sound. Vanitas pushed his weight down before he vanished so fast that an after image remained for a couple seconds afterwards. He had slid in a portal, and again reappeared behind Roxas.
Totally watch your rear, “fake” because once again he was attempting to strike with a quick combo of swings and swipes of his keyblade.

He looked hard into the blank surface of the mask as he struck, as if that could tell him something. Why the attack now, all of a sudden? What was going on?
Jumping in! Lemmie know if this is okay!
He was just barely able to dodge them, barking at them to watch where they were going in irritation before he realized that they weren't just running, they were fleeing in fear from something. Small black creatures were chasing them, hot on their heels and jumping at anyone they could get close to. A child fell face first as one jumped on her back, causing her to scream in pain as it began to claw wildly.
"H-hey! Get offa her!" Rin screamed at it, but the creature didn't seem to care. He grabbed the sword case off his back, but hesitated. His flames could easily do more harm than good with so many people around. Even with his control, it was just too risky. So he went with the only other option he had - using the cased sword like a baseball bat and whacking it as hard as he could.
It went flying, skidding several feet away and, thankfully, lying still for the moment. The girl got to her feet, scratched up but otherwise alright.
"What the hell is goin' on?!"
She said nothing in response, but pointed in to the shop where the real fight was taking place. She ran off while Rin was distracted, staring at the two people with strange weapons exchanging blows, and the few unfortunate souls that had been trapped inside with more of the weird creatures.
"... what the--..."
It's fine <3 Just...pardon my fail.
Metal on metal action was hitting and Vanitas was slipping just a bit. He had to get himself back to calm, and seeing that face really wasn’t helping. He allowed for Roxas’ blade to connect using the force to push himself back. Once more he slipped through a portal.
Vanitas reappeared on the other side of the store. Three crystals appeared in front of him. They shot dark energy at an angle to combine the three beams in to a large pillar of energy. It wasn’t the easiest to aim, but he didn’t really care about hitting those locals, the furnishings, or his own Unversed as he moved the beam after Roxas.

He dove out of the way of the brunt of the energy beam, shoes a little singed, and nearly collided with one of the tables as he scrambled back to his feet to stay ahead of it. What the hell was he thinking, using an attack like that inside a building? He was pretty sure the ice cream shop wasn't built to withstand much damage like that.
He swept his eyes across the store as he ran, trying to take stock of their surroundings. There were still a few locals cowering under furniture, too far from the door. Some just didn't seem to be moving.
Snapping his attention back to Vanitas, Roxas decided he was far enough ahead of the beam that he could pause to reach back and hurl Oblivion at his opponent.

It was just an ice cream shop, but there had to be a back door behind the counter. Or rather, Rin hoped there was.
He waited for an opening, that moment right before the blonde threw his weapon to bolt in to the shop, taking further swings at the strange creatures that were still pinning people down. They went flying easily, but he had a sinking feeling they weren't going to stay down long.
"Hey! Come on! Get outta here before the whole place goes down!" he yelled sharply at the rest of the cowering people. He grabbed the man who had been initially assaulted by the Unversed, pulling him to his feet before vaulting over the counter. His voice was enough to tear the rest away from the fight and their fear of an attempt at escape. They started following the teen, all of them heading for the back of the shop where, if they were lucky, there was a back door that would get them out.
Rin just hoped his efforts wouldn't get the masked boy's wrath down on him before he could get them to safety.

The keyblade had struck home and the triangulating crystals vanished as Vanitas was struck. Once more the fast bastard vanished, leaving an afterimage. He would appear above Roxas to strike below with his dark lightning. Vanitas would quickly fall in to another portal in order to throw a firaga spell. It was slow going, but it’ll split apart to separate fireballs to hit whatever that was close and moving.

Apparently it was just enough of a distraction to make him lose track of Vanitas. He had vanished when Roxas looked back, and though he felt the portal opening up right on top of him, Oblivion had only just returned to his hand and he couldn't get out of the way fast enough. He staggered under the lightning.
It was lucky the fire spell was slow, he needed the time to regain his footing. He slashed through the first of the fireballs with his keyblade and then made to weave through them towards the front door. If Vanitas was staying focused on him, he could lead him farther from the people trying to get out of the shop through the back.

Those damned creatures! They had hopped the counter after them and in Rin's own distraction had managed to corner the people.
"Goddamnit! Back off you bastards!" he barked. This wasn't working. They were just getting back up, again and again. Even if they escaped, there was a chance they would be chased even out of the shop.
He gripped his sword tightly and yanked it out, blue flames erupting around his body. He let out a deep breath and focused, aiming those flames at the creatures. It hit, and while they weren't destroyed it certainly sent them running.
Back at him.
Shit.
Two swings with the flaming sword and they were destroyed, and Rin grabbed the first person he was closest too and shoved them at the back door, which got the others moving again.
"Go! Get away from here!"
And the were out. He slammed the door shut, knowing that it was up to them to get away. That still left the blonde kid with the masked one, and the way the fight was going Rin just couldn't leave him there.
sorry
And then Roxas was moving. Oh no you don’t. He swung his keyblade down as he sent a crescent wave of darkness at the blond.
He could hear the other male shouting and a door slamming some where out of his view. Creating a few more Unversed, the Scrapper variety, before he slipped back through a portal again. He reappeared close to the front door. Already launching another slice, but this time at the door. Can’t escape that way.

But he'd heard the sound of the back door, and now he spared a glance for the rest of the shop. All the bystanders seemed to have gotten out, and it was just the three of them. That meant less to worry about in collateral damage.
Roxas turned, shifting his grip on Oblivion, and summoned one of his light pillars rushing towards Vanitas. He knew the attack would be familiar, and that it might just infuriate Vanitas more, but it was what he had.

"What the hell are these things?!" he screamed, crashing to the ground rather hard behind the counter. That actually gave him enough leverage to throw his legs out and kick one of them in to the wall so hard it dented the drywall, and grab the other off his back in order to toss it aside.
He stood, shirt torn and skin clawed raw and bloody, growling lowly as his anger only rose at the situation and at Vanitas. Roxas had him covered for the moment, though, that pillar of light seeming to head right for him.
After Vanitas leaves (you guys can tag with reaction or start a new one)
That guy with the flame swords was something new.
He seemed to have a firm enough grasp on bouncing between “Normal” and dark. It was a curious enough sight to be worth investigating. When he gets bored, he will leave a nice enough message for the kid to not get in his way. To those still in the wreckage of the ice cream shop- Vanitas was gone and all was well again.
Got it~
The second Vanitas had tried to retreat, the half-demon was after him. Well as much as one could be "after" some one who used portals to get around. He tore out of what was left of the ice cream shop, caring not for his injuries or just how much Vanitas had already tossed him around without much effort.
He skidded to a halt when he did finally spot Vanitas on the roof a good distance away - too far for even his speed and agility to catch up to before he would likely teleport away again.
"Tch... damn!" he hissed, sheathing his sword and extinguishing the flames. He winced as soon as the rush of them was gone, replaced by a dull all-over ache and several spots of much more uncomfortable pain where his injuries were worst. He was already healing, though slower than usual, which meant he was going to be feeling the battle for the next several hours, if not in to the next day.
"... Maka's gonna be pissed..." he muttered to himself, hand clenching and clenching at his side. He considered what to do next, beat up and torn to hell as he was.
Right... Kohaku was a healer... and she would probably take the news with much less anger and desire to go after Vanitas than Maka or Masaru would.

He could have followed. He could have opened a portal to that roof and tried to continue the fight. But it wasn't a fight he'd gone looking for, nor one he really wanted.
Instead he just let Oblivion vanish and turned to the boy with the tail. "You okay?" ...he didn't exactly look it, but Roxas probably didn't either.

Bits of steam actually curled up from where he was injured, faint but visible. Damn it hurt...
He wobbled a bit, looking up at Roxas with a worn expression, forcing a smile as he hoisted the sheathed Kurikara.
"Yeah, I'm fine," Half a lie. Physically, sure, but he didn't want to admit the fight had shaken him up. Demons and other exorcists were one thing, but Vanitas was... something else. Something that was a little too close to Rin's own darkness for his comfort. "You?"
no subject
"I'll be okay," he said, and after a moment he just sat down in the street with a plop. He felt numb right now more than shaken up. He'd been warned about Vanitas, and known there might be a fight if they met, but it had been different than he'd imagined. Somehow he hadn't expected that serious of a fight. What would have happened if he'd been on his own? He didn't know what to make of that thought.
"...thanks for the help."
no subject
"Yeah, well..." he huffed, not really finishing his thought. He straightened, looking around, "Hey, where's Riku... ?"
