[Even though most items in Vatheon are free, it just so happens that a lot of what Serph wants aren't. And they're all very expensive, too, costing him far more Starfish Tokens than what he's amassed. Getting a job is quite a hassle, but he wants the tokens so that's the price he pays.

So Serph had canvassed the entire city, searching for a job that still would keep his mind occupied while he works, which basically meant he had passed on all the shopkeeping jobs. However, when he had found himself in the city's Grand Library, looking down the rows and rows of massive bookshelves, he had thought it was a good opportunity to learn more about non-Junkyard things.

A short conversation with the librarian on staff later, and he has a job organising the collection of books. Except... he actually spends his work time reading a book while he sorts everything else. The collection seems to encompass almost everything, from books of passion -- he quickly stops reading those; their mixed metaphors hurt his head -- to detailed creature biographies to books on the assembly of model planes to 'classics', whatever that means.

However, even if he looks occupied, he's still paying attention to what's around him. If you need any assistance, Serph is more than willing to stop and help you!

*Selphie smiles as she finishes off her tea and places the mug back into the sink*

I'm Selphie!

*Like that explains a lot? She's not sure what else he wants to know, so she just sticks out her hand for a handshake*

[Serph, too, finishes off his tea and makes a mental note to wash the mugs later. But... why is Selphie sticking her hand out like that? Is he supposed to do something with it? What does it mean???

Serph is just giving Selphie a confused look. But he does understand that he's supposed to introduce himself, at least.]

*Selphie takes his mug and puts it beside hers before leaning forward to hold one of his hands. She lifts it, and moves it so that it sticks out towards her, and she grasps it in a handshake*

Nice to meet you, Serph.

[bufudine]

[OH MY GOD IT'S LIKE CANON ALL OVER AGAIN. Hey wait what are you doing why are you--

Serph's looking really baffled right now, yep.]

Nice... to meet you, Selphie.

[A pause.]

Why are you...?

[No seriously what are you doing, Selphie?]

[booyaka_boom]

*Selphie blinks at him before laughing a little - not at him, she's just so amused*

In my world, least if you're a nice person, that is how you greet someone, how you say hello! It's a handshake!

*And she'll do it again, just in case*

[bufudine]

[asdf;lkj okay okay he's got it! Shaking back... cautiously.]

Are you feeling better?

[She'd looked pretty terrible earlier, but she's a lot more upbeat now.]

*Selphie smiles widely, so pleased that he's shaking her hand eventually*

*She nods*

The tea helped, but I think I need some uh- some more human company...

*Yeah, totally doubting the humanness of this guy*

[Letting go of Selphie's hand now. And while he understands how handshakes work now, Selphie is still bewildering him.

More human company? More human company? Is she missing comrades? Does she even know he's part demon? Tilting his head.]

What do you mean?

[booyaka_boom]

Oh! I just mean... I've been staying with the chocobos for a coupla days now - it's so nice to actually talk to someone!

*Yeah, talk to... because maybe this wasn't a fully fledged conversation? Or he was just of few words - but Selphie's sure that still counts!*

[bufudine]

[Oh! Well, then he's glad she's enjoying his company, though he keeps that thought to himself. Chocobos, huh...?]

What are chocobos?

[booyaka_boom]

They're big yellow birds from my world!

*She smiles, really hoping he at least knows what a bird is*

[bufudine]

[He does! ...though the only ones he's actually seen are demon birds who cheat and take double turns had tried to kill him. So excuse him if he's a little cautious!]

Is it alright to be staying with them?

[He's sure Selphie wouldn't be staying with them if they weren't dangerous but...]

[booyaka_boom]

Sure it is! They're pretty clean and the barn doesn't smell bad or anything...

*Cause smell is about the only bad thing that Selphie can come up with about the chocobos*

[bufudine]

[Right. It occurs to him he's slacked off from his job for quite a while now, so he turns to wash the mugs. Soon water's running in the sink as he rinses them.]

I'd like to see them one day.

[But not now. It's one thing to consider walking Selphie home, but quite another to ditch his job for the day to play with birds.]

[booyaka_boom]

*Selphie watches him, getting the feeling herself that maybe she should get out of there. She's been wasting his work time, probably*

Right. Well, you're more than welcome to. Any time.

[bufudine]

[Serph places the mugs on a dish rack to dry before he turns and nods. He'll keep that in mind.]

Is there anything else you'd like help with?

[booyaka_boom]

*Selphie just smiles and shakes her head*

No thanks! You've done a great job, though! Your boss should give you a bonus!

[bufudine]

[Bo...nus? Well, it doesn't sound very important so Serph shakes off his confusion. He opens the door and holds it for Selphie to exit first, and will lead the way back through the library to where they'd been before.]

*Selphie gives a little nod as he holds the door open for her - what a gentleman! Then she looks down at the table where she'd left her book*

Oops! I nearly forgot about it! Thanks for all your help.

*And she smiles one of her lovely, honest smiles, cause she really means it*

[Serph gives her a nod in acknowledgement, but no smile because he's a lineface protagonist. Nevertheless, he likes the smile; it looks good on Selphie.

And with that, he'll be returning to his organisational work.]
