Watch time, see how it flies
Who: Johnny Rayflo and Sola
When: May 13th
Where: All over, but mostly the park
Style: Action
Status: Closed
[It was commonly thought that those creatures with long life saw time differently. A year was the blink of an eye, a week a barely passing thought, and a day merely a dust mite on the surface of a very long life. While there might be those who agreed with that, Johnny had never come to see time that way.
He'd always been pretty good with time. Dates of note were never missed and some were etched into his memory from years of observance. Consequently, the fact that today's date was what it was came as a shock to him. With everything that had been going on, including his cupcake-filled recovery on the island and then moving back in under the water and repairing all the damage that came with that, he'd actually lost track of that time he usually watched so carefully.
It had been a year since Sola had stumblingly expressed his feelings for Johnny, feelings the vampire had assumed wouldn't last and were only superficial, and while they'd had their rocky moments, those feelings hadn't gone anywhere. It was a bizzaar thing to think about: him being with anyone for that long. To be fair, anything past a month was a record, but in all his years, he'd never been in a relationship for that long. It was worth celebrating.
Johnny being who he was, would have set something up sooner, something amazing and fantastic, something that would really impress Sola (which, admittedly, wasn't all that hard, but still.) Instead, he was saved by the fact it seemed the hylian in question wasn't aware of the importance of the date so, with Minea's help, he set up a somewhat elaborate trail for Sola to follow while he put together the final stage.
His boyfriend did like quests, after all.
The first would come from Minea herself who was stationed at the house and would give it to Sola at the appropriate time. It was a simple message on a small scrap of paper:
'Go to the room where everything sweet is made.

The cat demon just shrugs and continues to vacuum.
Still unsure as to what's going on, Sola makes his way to the kitchen. It's easy enough to figure out what the small riddle means. Johnny often bakes sweets and he expects to find his matesprit waiting in there.]

'The place where it's just us and the darkness.']
no subject
"Us and the darkness..."
[He's pretty sure he knows where that is, but it makes his face turn even redder thinking about it. Is Johnny getting at what Sola thinks he's getting at? Or is he jumping to conclusions? W-well, only one way to find out, right?
He takes a piece of the brownie and eats it for courage, pops the rest in his sylladex, and makes his way to the bedroom.]
Johnny...?

'Almost there.
Now to the thing that brought us together.'

Another riddle!
Sola grins happily as he mulls it over. Gosh, this is fun. Johnny really knows him well to set up something like this.
Okay, so let's see... the thing that brought us together. Not a place, but a thing...
Ah-hah!
Taking the rose and putting it safely in his lapel, Sola bolts for the door and hurries to the plaza, grinning all the way.]

The candle is unlit and, sitting in it is a note smaller than the others.
All it says is: 'Special place.']

A soft smile spreads over his face, utterly betraying a sense of deep fondness for the memories those two simple words call up. He knows exactly where to go next.]

'My dearest Sola,
I hope you enjoyed the quests I set up for you, simple as they might have been. In case you haven't noticed the pattern, all of the places I sent you to are ones that hold significance to our shared past in order of increasing import.
Our bedroom: The place where I can hold you and be close to you without fear or worry about anything else.
The kitchen: A place where nightmares can be dispelled and happier memories made.
The Coral: The place where past injuries were healed and happier times continued as well as the very thing that allowed me to meet you.
Our Special Place: Something that was important before we even got together, it's a haven of good memories between us and where nightmares can't reach us.
You may be asking why and that might be because the date has escaped your notice. Today was the day you admitted your feelings to me, a year ago. It might not seem all that important, truthfully I don't know the Hylian traditions for relationships, but a year is a fairly note-worthy time span back home.
I admit, even more sio in my case, as I have not been in a relationship like ours for near as long as year. It's a special occasion to me and I wished to celebrate it with the special person who caused it to happen.
Though there were rough patches and still we have our disagreements, I have not been happier in my long life than the time I have spent here and with you. Thank you, Sola. I know I am rarely the best with words in these situations, but I hope you know, at least through this, how much you mean to me.
Now, for your last riddle: Go to the place where it all began.
-J.R.
P.S. Don't bring the table.']

Today their relationship is one year old, and Johnny wants to celebrate it.
At first he feels terrible that he missed the day on his own. with everything going on, he hadn't given much thought to the passage of time, but Johnny had remembered and planned and put together this wonderful quest for him and Sola hadn't even gotten him a gift.
But in reading the letter again, Johnny doesn't seem to want anything else. Nothing more or less than Sola.
The Hylian holds the letter to his chest for a moment, leaning lightly on the table and running through the past year in his mind. There had been ups and downs, hard times and triumphs shared. Sola had learned so much and Johnny had helped him grow and in some ways, Sola too had done that in turn for the vampire, as strange as it is to think that one so young has things to teach one who's lived so long, but it's true. And now they're here, at this point, and Sola has a soul, has a life that's not merely all his own but that he willingly shares with the person he holds most dear.
That he willingly shares with Johnny Rayflo.
Sola very carefully folds up the letter and puts it safely away in his sylladex to keep forever, and makes his way to the lake.]

But the vampire is smiling and his expression is soft and pure affection when he sees Sola made it to the end of his 'quest.' Not that he had any doubtrs at all, Sola was very good at quests.]
Hello, Sola.
[He held his hand out as an invitation.]
Won't you join me?
no subject
He'll just take that hug now, thanks. He has to lean forward awkwardly to avoid stepping on the basket at Johnny's feet so his face ends up against Johnny's stomach as opposed to his chest when he hugs his matesprit.]
You did all this for me?
[It's not really a question. More of a thank you dressed up with a question mark.]
no subject
Of course. It's a special day to celebrate being with a special person. I needed to do something.
Of course, you shouldn't thank me until the whole scene is set.
[He pulled one of his hands away to gesture to the boat behind him.]
no subject
[He looks up at Johnny questioningly but obediently follows his arm even as he's loathe to let go even for a moment.]
But I thought you were the treasure at the end of the quest.
[He doesn't seem aware of just how cheesy that sounds in how earnestly surprised he is that there's more.]
no subject
That was just like Sola.]
Oh no, there's more. Take a seat in the boat and I'll show you.
no subject
Umm, okay.
[He climbs into the boat with little grace, getting settled then looking at Johnny to see if he needs help climbing in too.]
What else is there?
no subject
What's the point of a surprise if I tell you?
[He took up the oars and set about moving the boat to the middle of the lake and let them float there.]
Hmm...it's too bad we can't see the stars.
[But if he'd wanted stars, his only options would have been the ocean off the island or the lake in the middle of the island.]
no subject
[The Hylian points to the bubble above them, a school of some sort of silvery fish flashing in the moonlight from high above. Sola drops his hand, still watching, and absently leans against Johnny as he does.]
no subject
Inside the box were a bunch of floating candles like the one that had been in the fountain and, carefully, he lit them and slid them into the lake water around them.]
no subject
Ah!
[He watches the candles float past, the effect like fairies in the water, weaving over the small ripples made by the boat.]
It's so pretty...
no subject
I believe there's still one left in your sylladex, yes? Why don't you put the last two in?
[Meanwhile, he starts pulling out the picnic he prepared which includes sandwiches, sweet treats, drinks, and a few side items. The most note-worthy thing about it though, is the fact that he's tried to mix as much food from both Sola's world and his own into the spread as he can.]
no subject
[Yaaay, he gets to help! Sola pops the remaining candle out of his sylladex (having to answer a riddle about candles with a trick answer to do it. He gets it surprisingly quickly.) and lights both candles carefully to set them out on the placid, now glowing surface of the lake. He has to lean over quite far to reach but he's careful not to tip the boat too much. He settles back, face beaming with joy.]
