When he sees the blade coming towards him, he takes a deep breath and activates the omnitool's shield ability. As he jerks his wrist down, it only... partially blocks the sword. At first, the blade seems to sink right through the flickering shield and he worries for a brief second that he really will lose an arm, but then the shield solidifies- with the sword lodged in it. Seeing his chance, he tries to jerk his arm, either to get her to crash into him or just steal the sword himself before the effect wears off.
