Mickey's Choo-Choo ( 9 - video )

[Mickey's settled in his expansive garden, with his pets around him - the chocobo is sleeping against a tree, while the dog lays his head in Mickey's lap. He's looking sort of sentimental as he takes up his starfish.]

Still around, Sophie? I thought about keepin' my promise and tellin' ya one of the fairy tales we got back home... without explodin' bears. I got 'em all memorized like the back of my hand. Just tell me what yer in the mood for.

... Heh, and I suppose if anyone else wants one, they can ask for one too.

[ Coincidence, Sophie is in her garden too! And her kitten, Tiger Festival, is occupying ihmself by pouncing on her pigtails. ]

Do you know any stories about dragons?

I got plenty! Let's see... I know! Ya ever hear the story about The Reluctant Dragon?

..If it is not too much trouble.

[He wants them for Gamzee and Summoner...]

Sure thing!

Lemme see, lemme see... Ever heard the tale of a poor boy who used a genie to try and win the heart of a princess?

...That depends on how it ends. I may have heard something similar, or not.

[Most of the stories where lowbloods and highbloods mix in an attempt to be positive don't end happily. Alternia can be like that.]

May as well give it a shot.

[he clears his throat.]

Once upon time, in the desert kingdom of Agrabah, there was a street urchin named Aladdin. He had no family, and stole for a living. However, he had a kind heart, and a loyal monkey companion named Abu. He longed for a good life where he could be treated with respect, and would always longingly look at the palace. Inside the palace, the Sultan wanted his daughter, the princess Jasmine, to marry before her next birthday, but she refused every suitor. The law said that the princess could only marry a prince, but every suitor she met was cruel and uncaring. She wanted to marry for true love, and so one night, she ran away from the palace.

[There are a lot of things he wants to comment on, but he has a feeling it wouldn't be appropriate, so Darkleer keeps mostly quiet.]

I see... Was she successful, then?

Unfortunately, she'd never been outside the palace walls before, so she had no idea what life was like out there.

She took food from a merchant ta give ta some hungry kids, but she had no money ta pay for the food. The merchant was ready to cut off her hand for stealing, but that's when Aladdin stepped in, and claimed that Jasmine was his sister, who was too insane ta know right from wrong. Jasmine played along, and the merchant let her go. Aladdin fell head over heels for Jasmine, since she was such a beauty, and showed the princess all around the kingdom, not knowin' who she really was. They spent the day together, fallin' in love, and all that mushy stuff...

... And they never suspected that the Sultan's adviser, the evil Jafar, was spyin' on them!

Reluctant dragon? No, I haven't heard it.

All right!

Once upon a time, in a sleepy little village, there was a boy who loved ta read about dragons and knights. Like most people in his village, he thought all dragons were scary, and evil, and ate people. And he thought all knights were brave, and fearless, and invincible. One day, as he was doin' his readin', his father suddenly ran by, yellin' that a dragon had showed up at the edge of the village! The boy, who had never seen a real dragon before in his life, decided ta go and see the dragon for himself.

There's always one of them....

[Corrupt evil royal advisers are a staple, after all! At least to him, but he's listening still, committing everything to memory.]

Wouldn't be much of a story without a bad guy.

Jafar wanted ta rule Agrabah, and he had spells, magic weapons, and even a talking parrot ta try and usurp the Sultan, but he always failed, cause he never thought ahead. His latest scheme was trying to enter a Cave of Wonders ta get hold of a magic lamp, but the cave would only let 'a diamond in the rough' enter. Jafar used a spell to find this 'diamond in the rough', and discovered it was Aladdin. He sent the palace guards to capture Aladdin, and claimed Aladdin had kidnapped the princess. Despite Jasmine's objections, Aladdin and Abu were tossed in the dungeon, and sentenced ta die. Aladdin thought he was done for...

... until a strange old man in the dungeon began to talk about a Cave of Wonders.

How did he convince him to go?

The old man was Jafar in disguise, and said he would help the two escape if they promised ta get him the lamp from the cave. Aladdin was a man of his word, so he promised ta do it. Jafar helped take Aladdin and Abu out of the dungeon, leadin' 'em ta the cave. He told Aladdin ta touch nothin' but the lamp, and again, Aladdin promised. Aladdin and Abu went inside, and the cave was filled with treasures piled high! Gold, jewels, a single piece of it would have made him ten times richer than the sultan! They even found a flyin' carpet that followed them around, glad ta have new friends. But Aladdin remembered his promises, and touched nothing, managin' to find the lamp.

Abu, on the other hand, was kinda greedier than his friend... and he couldn't resist this one ruby...

[ She settles in for a listen, putting her gardening to the side and, when Tiger Festival pounces on her again, she picks the kitten up and places him on her lap, where he fascinated by the image of Mickey talking. *pawpaw* ]

Did he get eaten?

That's what he thought might happen! But when he found the dragon, it was singin'! And dancin'! In fact, it didn't look very scary or mean at all. So the boy asked if the dragon was there ta eat anybody, or kidnap any princesses. The dragon said no, he just wanted a nice place ta nap, and ta practice his poetry. He was just about the nicest dragon there ever was.

So the boy headed back ta the village, cause he wanted ta let everyone know the dragon meant no harm. But it was too late... a knight called Sir Giles had been summoned ta the village, who was famous for slayin' dragons!

[ Gasp! ]

Dragons can sing and dance? [ That's kind of /amazing/. She absently runs a hand over Tiger Festival's back, though her full attention is on Mickey. ]

What happened then? Did Sir Giles hurt the dragon?

That's what everyone in the village wanted Sir Giles ta do, caused they thought the dragon would come and eat 'em! Sir Giles went inside an inn ta prepare for battle, so the Boy snuck in ta try and talk ta him. He had always read and heard that knights were young, invincible, and brave. But when Sir Giles took off his armor, he was actually an old, weak, scared man! He didn't wanna fight the dragon, but everyone assumed that 'cause he was a knight, he was supposed ta do it. The Boy decided to bring Sir Giles ta meet the dragon, and see if they would fight...

... and they didn't! In fact, Sir Giles really liked the dragon's poetry!

[He knows he's never met this mouse but the offer of fairy tales is too good to pass up so he messages him anyway.]

You know stories? I can hear one too, right? I really like stories.

[A beat. Oh right, manners!]

Ah! Sorry, my name's Sola! What's yours?

It's nice ta meetcha, Sola. My name is Mickey Mouse. Anything in particular ya'd like ta hear?

[ She thinks about this for a second. ]

Asbel is like that. He's strong, and young and brave. But he's not a knight yet. He wants to become a knight though. [ Pause. ]

I don't think he would want to hurt the dragon, if he knew it sings and dances and tells poetry. It's good that Sir Giles the Knight got along with the dragon. Then they can be friends.

Were the villagers angry they didn't fight?

See, that's exactly what the Boy was worried about! If the knight and dragon didn't fight, they'd be really angry and disappointed. So the Boy came up with an idea... he'd have them pretend to fight! He found a cave that the fake fight could take place in, and then gathered up all the villagers. Sir Giles and the dragon began ta act out their roles... the dragon pretended ta be scary and mean, while Sir Giles pretended ta be brave and strong. Then the two went in the cave where no one could see 'em, and made all kinds of noises. Everyone in the village was fooled...

... At first.

[ Uhoh. "At first" is never a good thing to hear. She had been hoping for good things to happen! Letting the first plan sink in, Sophie tilts her head when Mickey pauses at the best part ever. ]

... what happened?

See, the cave had another exit, and that's where Sir Giles and the dragon were hidin'. Even though they sounded like they were fightin', they were actually dancin' around and havin' a picnic. The villagers followed the noises, and found the two, seein' that they weren't fightin' at all! The Boy, worried for his new friends, tried to stop the villagers...

But the villagers were all relieved! None of them liked the idea of fightin' anyhow! The big problem everyone had was that everyone assumed the worst about the dragon and Sir Giles... when all anyone ever had ta do was actually talk about it. So Sir Giles and the dragon invited the village to their picnic, and read poetry to them all. The Boy decided that from now on, he wouldn't automatically believe everythin' he read, and make his own decisions about who and what ta trust. And they all lived happily ever after.

Um... Do you know any about a brave hero rescuing princesses? I like stories like that.

[Poor thing doesn't know that's pretty much the oldest one in the proverbial book. Or literal book...]
