Most things here are free if you show your mark. The exceptions are items in the Nostalgia district and shops run by other foreigners like me. You'll need the local currency for that. They're called starfish tokens, and they're tracked on a card that you can remove from your SFC when you wish to use it. The locals will give you tokens for odd jobs, or you can create your own employment like I have. For commissions I take tokens or skill trades, but honestly I don't worry too much about them and I probably undervalue my work quite a bit. I have more tokens than I usually ever need.
