Four in the afternoon. Time to open. Otoha makes sure the door to his room is closed and locked, and heads over to flip the sign on the front door to 'open'. Business has still been slow, but it's something to do at least. He heads behind the counter, sitting down and checking to make sure his sword is in grabbing range before cracking open a book.

Maybe someone would come in today. Hopefully.

He nods, and pours it into a glass for Fai.

"Here you go. And yeah. I needed something to work on. My brother owned a few bars, so I thought I might as well try."

[behind_my_smile]

"I'm going to be working in a..I believe they called it a tavern. I'm very excited. Do you enjoy working and owning this place? I would think it would be fun. I ran a cafe once a long time ago."

Fai watched him pour the drink then reached out so that he could try it.

"That must be Johnny's. I like working at this place, yeah. And a cafe? Huh. I'm... actually looking for people to help cook here."

He slides the glass over to the other man.

"Really? Well if you need a cook, I'd be willing to help. I already agreed to help him, but I'm sure I'd be able to do a little bit here as well if you need me. I would like to stay busy."

Fai picks up the drink and sips it then nods his approval, "It's very good!"

"I appreciate it. I'm sort of useless when it comes to cooking."

Otoha chuckles a little bit. "There's other flavors if you want them, too."

"I'm happy to help out!" Fai smiles brightly. It just gives him even more excuses to cook for people. He certainly won't complain about that.

"I'd love to try them all! I have to be careful..It doesn't take much for me to get drunk." Fai didn't need to be running around town completely drunk.

"A lot of people here seem to be." It's weird. He's not used to it at all, to be honest. "I'm Otoha, by the way."

Oh dear. "Is there a certain number I should cut you off at, then?"

"Fai D. Flourite! It's nice to meet you Otoha-san." Fai lifted up his hand with one finger on it, "Probably just one. Last time I split a bottle of wine with someone, that was all it took."

[bakegarasu]

"Nice to meet you, too." ... Aw. A lightweight, huh? "I'll keep that in mind. You can try the other flavors next time, right?"

[behind_my_smile]

"I can try a different flavor every time I come! That will keep things interesting." Fai laughs as he raises the cup to his lips once again and takes another drink.

[bakegarasu]

"There you go. If you've got any special requests, I can see if I can get my hands on them." The whole city is small enough that it shouldn't be too hard to track anything down, after all.

"I really haven't tried very many things. Do you have a favorite drink?" Fai set his glass down and played with the condensation on the side of it.

"Anything strong. I don't really go for the lighter kind of drinks - they're not what I got used to." He had spent enough times in bars to know which drinks got you teased by the other members of the group by the time he was a teenager, after all.

[behind_my_smile]

"So you're the opposite of me!" Fai laughs a little. "One of the people I traveled with liked more of the hard drinks as well. Actually I think his favorite drink was sake because that was what he was most familiar with. But when we went to a bar, he ordered something a bit stronger."

"My brother owned a few bars, so I grew up with hard drinks around. He uh... didn't have that positive a view of drinks that didn't knock you for a loop." He grins a little bit.

[behind_my_smile]

"So running a bar is kind of in your family? I guess it seemed natural to open one here too then." Fai lists his glass and drinks a bit more.

[bakegarasu]

"It's the more respectable one of the family business options, yeah." Also the least likely to get him in trouble. Probably.

[behind_my_smile]

"Do you have a really big family? Do you see them often? Did any of them get to come here with you?" Fai knew he probably shouldn't pry into other people's lives..but he always does anyway.

[bakegarasu]

"Depends on what you call 'family'. I grew up in my brother's yakuza cell. I used to see them all the time. Then I tried to steal some money from them with my friend, ended up nearly dying, and weird stuff happened... actually I imagine they're running around Shinjuku now, wondering what to do without a leader. None of them came with me and I'm thankful for it."

Hey, you did ask.

"Wow..that's a pretty exciting story. Why did you try to steal the money from your own yakuza family? Do you miss your brother at least?" Fai had a brother once..many many decades ago..but that isn't a story he really tells.

[bakegarasu]

"My friend Reiji and I had decided to run away. It was kind of the idea of a final 'fuck you' to them... probably not the smartest move, in hindsight."

He does chuckle a little at the last question. "Do I miss him? No. Not in the least."

[behind_my_smile]

"So I guess the one you probably miss is actually your friend, Reiji? Do you miss him then?" Fai finds it sad that this man's family isn't one he seems to care for. The only family he had ever really known was his brother and he had lost even him at an early age.

[bakegarasu]

"... Yeah. I know I won't see him again, unless this place decides to pull him in." Wow, he did not mean to talk this much about his family. "Do you have any family at home?"

[behind_my_smile]

"Maybe it will someday. You never know with this place! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you." Fai smiled but it faded as soon as he thought about the question. "Not anymore..I don't really have a home to go back too. It was destroyed."

"... Ah." He considers offering him another drink at that, but he doesn't really want to carry him home. "Sorry to hear that."
