Because sparring is what Ky does for fun

Ky offered to spar with Johnny almost entirely for the vampire's sake. While he had no doubts that he could use the practice himself -- after all, more practice never hurt -- he had been sparring with other people since coming to Vatheon to stay in form and to take advantage of what different techniques had to offer.

He also had plenty of other ways to stay busy, and it seemed to be that which Johnny was missing. It was better not to let fears or nightmares eat them alive, and the trick to that was to keep moving, keep focusing on other things.

With the specific dream of Johnny's that Ky had seen it seemed even more important that Ky make room in his schedule to spar with Johnny, and he'd informed the Defense Force patrol for the forest that this was planned, and then invited Johnny to join him in a clearing.

With the nightmares slowly becoming less and less frequent, Johnny's spirits were lifting and the exhaustion that had built up over the month was lifting. This on top of his tavern opening recently, things seemed to be fitting back into place as they'd been before. However, that didn't mean he wasn't willing to accept an offer to spar, even if his desire for it had switched from 'distraction' to 'entertainment.'

The vampire arrived where Ky was standing as a swarm of bats that reformed into the man, saber in hand and a smile on his face. "Evening, Ky~~"

Ky tried not to be too startled by the sudden coalescence of bats, and he was able to relax once he saw that it was Johnny. Ky's hand stayed on his sword, but his grip on it relaxed. 

"Johnny," he greeted formally, offering him a slight smile. "How are you?" Ky studied him as well, although he would admit to not knowing what made a vampire look good. He therefore mostly attempted to check Johnny's eyes for signs of unease.

He held the tip of the sword to the ground, keeping with etiquette learned centuries ago, though his other hand curled into a fist and had settled on his hip. "I'm fine. I've certainly had worse days. What about you?"

"I have no complaints." It was true enough, while Ky could be rather continually upset about being here instead of his world, where his true duties lay, he was finding his own space. Besides, it would never just be complaining if he were talking about it. To dwell on the topic would only make the fact that it even was an issue more obvious, and it wouldn't accomplish anything productive.

"Did you wish to get started? I should say first that I have electricity magic, but I can not use that if you aren't prepared to deflect it."

Johnny nodded, not minding the topic switch. It was what they were there for, after all.

"Of course. And I'll deflect it...or dodge. Don't fret about me, Ky~"

He raised the blade slightly, taking on an offensive stance.

"Shall we~?"

Ky took a step back, not to give Johnny space but because the majority of his strength could be used when he starting at a distance.

"Yes."

Ky didn't think Johnny needed any further warning, so he hurled a small sphere of lightning at him, rushing in with his sword swinging precisely as he got close enough to hit.

Johnny danced aside, letting the magic pass him by with a little bit of room to spare and brought his blade up to block. as soon as their swords connected, the vampire pushed away and swung at Ky's side.

Ky kept his sword swinging back for another attack at Johnny, but he sent a small ball of electricity at the sword, hoping for the metal to conduct it back to Johnny hand enough to startle him away from pressing the attack, or maybe even do a little bit more.
