As new and unsure as things still were between them, Roxas hadn't wanted to make a big deal out of Valentine's Day. Following some convention of big, obvious displays of romance would be uncomfortable for the both of them, he thought.

But, that didn't mean they couldn't do anything. On his way home from helping out at the host club, Roxas picked up some of those ubiquitous chocolates, a bag of candy hearts, and what looked to be a promising movie. Axel seemed totally fine with a movie night for Valentine's.

On getting back to the apartment, Roxas shut the door behind him and wandered out to the living room in search of his friend.

Axel was never a big fan of Valentine's Day, to be honest. He wasn't bitter towards it or anything; he just never had an interest for celebrating it. He never had a reason to either. The only good thing to look forward to on Valentine's Day would be candy and a nice evening alone to enjoy them all. Here in Vatheon, however, this was a bit different. He would have treated this like any other day, ignored it, swept it away under the rug or out the door, but thanks to a certain best friend of his Axel's plans had changed dramatically. So he found himself puttering about the days leading up to Valentine's, mostly wondering if he should bring up doing something special with Roxas. Did the kid even know what Valentine's Day was?

Well, with a majority of the day uneventful, Axel was left to guess that Roxas either didn't know, or just didn't care.

... Still. That didn't mean he couldn't try to make the day special somehow. He'd gone out for a little bit as well today and quickly set things up back at the apartment when he returned. What Roxas would see as soon as he got through the door would be a suspicious trail of heart shaped candy leading through the living room and into Roxas' bedroom. What, oh, what could these be?

Roxas blinked at the sight, and then a smile spread across his face. He really hadn't expected anything from Axel. He didn't seem big on holidays in general, or on romance. Apparently he'd made an exception. Roxas bent to pick up the first of the hearts, still carrying the candy and the film in his other arm, and then straightened to follow the trail.

He stepped into his bedroom, eager to discover the rest of the surprise. "Axel...?"

Upon hearing the door open Axel made sure to keep himself as silent and still as possible in his little hiding spot before his best friend would show up. As the footsteps drew nearer he readied himself, counted the seconds and ran through his timing one more time. And with Roxas would open the door the first thing he would be greeted with would be a giant stuffed bear sitting on his bed. Yeah, so it wasn't a skateboard or anything, but Axel figured he'd get something different.

Following that, Axel would appear from behind him and promptly pull Roxas back into a one armed hug. BOO.

"W-wow..." That was one gigantic bear. He was about to go over and see if it was as fluffy as it looked when suddenly he was pulled back into a hug.

"Woah!" Roxas managed not to drop anything in his surprise, which quickly melted into delight. This couldn't be anyone but Axel. He put a hand over his friend's and twisted to look up at him. "This is... You really did all this for me?"

Axel chuckled towards his best friend's reaction and gave him a small shake. "It's nothing much, but I figured I'd get you something anyway." Roxas did a lot of things for him already, and Axel didn't want to be a jerk and not pitch in even if it would be awkward or embarrassing.

Lugging that giant bear to their apartment wasn't his best moment, but at least he had the privacy of the Corridors of Darkness to make the trip easier.

"Well- thanks." Nothing much, huh? It seemed like plenty to him.

"I didn't figure you'd want to do a lot for Valentine's, so..." Sheepishly, he held up his little armful of stuff, the movie on top. It didn't seem like much now, but he thought Axel wouldn't mind.

Axel glanced down when he felt Roxas move and when he spotted the candy and movie in his hand he smirked and made a move to ruffle up his hair a bit.

"What makes you think I wouldn't want to do a lot?" What, do you think he's some kind of flake, Roxas? ... Even though he totally is, but--

"Because romance weirds you out," Roxas said matter-of-factly, pushing at Axel's hand. Maybe less so if he was doing it himself though; some things were like that.

"Movie night's easy though, right?"

"Says who?" ... Well, yeah, it did weird him out, but that was only because Axel never really thought about it as something important or necessary. Could this even be called romantic anyway? Hrn. He still had a lot of things to sort out.

With his hand pushed away he took a step back then glanced down at the movie in Roxas' hand. "Heh. I'd be down with that. Lemme guess. It's a chick flick?"

"No one had to tell me." He could figure some things out for himself, and even if Axel was hard to read on some occasions, this wasn't one of them.

"Chick flick?" Roxas wasn't exactly sure what that was, so instead he offered, "Well, it's supposed to have a love story." Hopefully it didn't get too sappy. He'd made sure there were no singing mermaids, at least.

Axel sighed then reached over to take the video and read the synopsis on the back. Yup. A chick flick, all right. But he supposed he could give it a go. Axel wasn't particularly picky about movies, mainly because he never had the need to watch them.

"Well, we'll have to check it out. Grab your bear and we'll go to the living room."

And stuff their faces with candy, clearly.

Grab his bear... Hmm. How did you carry something that big and fluffy?

"Um- you take these then," he said, pushing the candy at Axel. He was probably going to get a laugh out of this but that was all right. Roxas went over to give the bear a big bear hug and haul it off the bed.

Axel has a lot of arm strength, Roxas. Check out these muscles.

With candy in hand he headed out the door and made room for Roxas to move with his new buddy there. Smirking, he held back a laugh as he watched the kid drag the giant bear off his bed and across the floor. Heh. Seriously, Roxas, there's nothing you can say or do that will convince Axel that you're not cute.

"Hurry up, Goldilocks." And with that he walked on over to start putting the movie in.

Well, the whole way into the living room, he was imagining Axel lugging the bear over, and that was a pretty cute image, too. Somehow he got it to the sofa and plopped down beside it. There didn't seem to be much room left for him and Axel. They'd just have to sit close.

There we go. With the movie set up, Axel stood to head over to the couch and take a seat only to find more than half the damn couch covered with a stuffed bear. ... Huh. He should've thought this through a little better.

No matter. He'd just occupy Roxas' spot for a little while. And so he did, plopping down between Roxas and the bear to make for a nice and snug seating arrangement.

That worked out well as far as Roxas was concerned, and he smiled up at Axel as he sat. Then, after a moment's consideration, he leaned up to press a kiss to his cheek. He'd already said thanks, but he thought that might say it better. As long as Axel didn't go awkward on him anyway.

Excuse him; he kind of has amazingly voluptuous hips, so sitting down here might be a bit snug. Shortly after he realized he forgot to pick up the remote and was about to stand up and head for it, but-- Ah.

That.

... He'd never get used to that. But at least Roxas had... pulled off enough stunts like that before for Axel to be somewhat familiar with them. After a beat, he managed a small chuckle. "Heh. Not so bold anymore, are you?"

"Bold? Ah..." He meant that kiss on the lips, didn't he? "Is bold okay?"

It sounded a little silly, putting it like that. You probably weren't supposed to ask permission to be bold; that was the whole point, right? Still, even just now there'd been that little pause. As much as he wanted to, he didn't want Axel to react like he had before, too surprised to kiss back and just... not ready.

Axel had gotten up to pick up the remote beside the TV, partially to distract himself and partially... to put some distance between them again. Ok. He could do this. This was totally fine! They were just having an awesome movie night with candy and and giant stuffed bear taking over the entire couch.

Letting out a sheepish chuckle, Axel walked back over and took his place right where he was before. "Well, I guess in some circumstances it is." Vague as all hell. This shouldn't have come as a surprise by now.

So he could kiss Axel, but only some of the time? Watching Axel as he made his little trip to and from the TV, his eyes fell on his friend's lips for a moment. Then he looked over to the TV and shifted to get settled again as Axel sat back down. It wasn't like he wanted to kiss Axel all the time (that would get in the way of breathing and other important things), but it would be nice, not having to worry if it was okay. Just going for it when the mood struck him.

So it should have been equally as unsurprising when Roxas asked, "Like when?"

Creeper Roxas, staring at me like that. Clearly you should be looking at my hips instead.

Axel settled into his seat a little more and upon hearing that question he cleared his throat and glanced at the huge bear out of the corner of his eye. "Like..." Er--

"... There's not really a specific time that's the best."

Don't worry, Axel. He looks at your hips often enough, too.

"Well, I know it's not gonna be like- 4 o'clock is okay but 5 isn't," Roxas said. Really, Axel could give the least helpful answers sometimes. He nudged his friend and then offered, "How 'bout- if I give you some kind of warning? Then you can tell me if it's no good."

Look, romance is very complicated business, shorty.

Axel thought about it before he gave a small shrug. "Yeah. That works." It might not have felt very nice to tell Roxas 'now isn't a good time' for most of those warnings, but at least he had the option. Boy. He never knew Roxas could have such a thing for kissing.

He just wanted to be affectionate, okay. Wasn't that something couples did?

For now he just settled back into the couch cushions. He got a lot of maybes from Axel, but he was determined to be patient. "Okay. Are we gonna start the movie?"
