Roxas was a jealous person. Most of the time he chose to keep quiet about it or even ignore it because it wasn't supposed to matter anymore, not here. He had every opportunity here to get what he wanted.

But today he couldn't ignore it. It kept eating at him until he did something he'd been avoiding since he'd first figured out why he hadn't seen the guy around: he went to see Sora.

The idea of being around his Other while he was asleep had made him uneasy before. Not now. He stood over Sora's bed and looked down at him and felt that surge of envy. Roxas had been made to give up everything he had, everything he was, for this guy. And however nice he was, Sora had no idea what that was like. To have to give up existing because you were the inferior person. Not even that, you were the unworthy half of a person.

He could never make Sora feel that either. He couldn't even shout at him for it, with him just passed out like this. Roxas looked around the room. Sora wasn't someone who strongly valued material possessions, but that was all Roxas had in his power to take away from him. So that was what he did, grabbing whatever he could--that dumb short-sleeved hoodie, a toy sword, what looked like a seashell collection, anything.

He'd arrived by portal, but he didn't leave that way. He walked back out of the house and towards his apartment with a defiance in his step. Go ahead, ask him why he's stealing his Other's belongings.

((This is a sanctioned theft, and he'll be giving it all back later anyway. Probably.))

Tidus wasn't sure where he was planning to go; he had just started walking around aimlessly. His trip had led him here, nearly colliding into Roxas. Fortunately, he managed to save himself before he did.

"Sorry-- oh, it's you! The guy with the hair. I don't think you ever told me your name."

He paused, eyes drifting down to what he assumed were Roxas' belongings.

"I didn't know you played with toy swords."

Roxas instinctively drew the collection of stolen items closer at the near collision, not wanting to drop anything.

"It's Roxas," he said with maybe a little too much emphasis. Emphasis that said I'm not Sora, at least to anyone who knew. "And I don't."

Struggle bats were not swords.

Tidus blinked a few times, and scratched the back of his head, wondering why Roxas was acting so...different. Was he upset about something?

"Then...why do you have a toy sword in your arms? And all that other stuff?"

"What, I'm not allowed to have stuff?" he said defensively.

"I never said that," Taking a step back, he tried to keep his voice as level as possible. Something was wrong, he just didn't know what. "Is something on your mind? You're acting kind of different."

Was he acting differently? He hadn't tried to take this feeling out on Sora in a long time, not since the World that Never Was. Why was it so strong right now?

But he shook his head, frowning. "You- don't really know me. That's all."

He shrugged. "You're right, we've only talked a few times. But that doesn't mean I don't want to know you. Tell me about yourself! What's your story?"

Roxas blinked, taken aback. "My story...?"

His story was that he was nobody. People weren't supposed to be interested in that. "You're really asking?"

Tidus nodded sincerely. It didn't seem like such a big deal to him, but the fact that it was to Roxas only intrigued him further. "Why wouldn't I ask? You seem pretty interesting, and I'd like to know you, if you'll tell me."

Roxas fidgetted. He didn't usually say much about himself, nothing specific. There wasn't much to tell.

"You wouldn't say that if you knew. I'm not supposed to be here. I wasn't supposed to be anywhere. No one cares about people like that."

Tidus was just silent for a moment, expression unreadable. After a minute or so, he shook his head rather adamantly, voice firm.

"I care."

"Yeah, well... I'm not the hero, so I don't get a story." He shrugged, eyes falling to the toy sword. "There's your answer."

"That's not true. Everyone has a story. And okay, maybe you're here for different reasons...but you can still make something out of it." He glanced down.

"In this place? I can barely keep everything straight." If he could even keep it straight at all.

"He'll get to go home one day and be with his friends and everything'll be great, for him."

"Yeah, this place makes that hard..." He nodded, glancing back up. Him? "Would you be talking about...your twin?"

His twin? ... Oh. That was right, Tidus was one of the people he'd lied to about that. "Yeah. My 'twin.'"

He said that kind of strangely. "Is there...more to this than I know?"

[coolerthansora]

"Isn't that what you've been trying to tell me, that I've got some kind of story?" Roxas shook his head. "He's the only one that matters."

Tidus decided not to argue, for now, and just stared at him questioningly. "Why do you think that?"

[coolerthansora]

"Because that's what everyone decided. It's not even like they're wrong. I've never done anything for anyone. It doesn't get much easier to pick."

[blitz_acing]

"That's what everyone decided, huh? You don't have to do anything. What do you want to do?"

[coolerthansora]

"Do...? I don't... I don't know anymore." Just being himself didn't seem like enough lately.

[blitz_acing]

"You don't need to know. But maybe...it's something to think about."

[coolerthansora]

"...well, anyway, it's not your problem," Roxas said, hefting his stolen goods and turning to go on.

[blitz_acing]

"So? That doesn't mean I'm not interested." Tidus was going to make this as difficult as he could for Roxas. He kept following him.
